Faubourg Marigny Apartment

Located in the Faubourg Marigny, this two-bedroom, two-bath apartment is a serene setting for a couple’s art and furniture collection. Studio West’s architecture and interior design was inspired by the building’s historic architecture, large floor-to-ceiling slip head windows, and expansive wrap-around gallery.

An art inspired and light-filled historic interior renovation

The apartment’s original entry stairwell is painted an unapologetic lilac and dark purple. The sudden shift in color creates a welcoming and cheerful transition space. The second floor’s mostly white walls allow the owners' collections of art and vintage and modern furniture to be the focus. Large millwork closets with floor-to-ceiling storage were custom-built to maximize storage in the historic structure. Studio West carried this concept to the custom design of the kitchen and millwork. The combination of light and openness yields a residential space that is at once respectful of the past and suitable for modern lifestyles.

The second-floor apartment, which had been used for offices for 20 years and as two apartments prior to that time, was meticulously renovated. During selective demolition, Studio West was able to discover which walls were original to the layout, and the design was modified to reflect the layout of the original single apartment unit more accurately. The existing 1920s American Standard Rose Du Barry pink bathroom was retained and restored, which included sourcing and relocating an original matching toilet from across the country.
