Jason Richards is a practicing architect and Principal at Studio West in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jason has 17 years of experience as a designer and architect focused on complex civic, cultural, and educational projects both in New Orleans and across the United States.

Jason believes creating well designed architecture requires a deep understanding of building technology. His portfolio of completed work demonstrates an acute understanding of how structural and building systems are integrated into a building’s design. Jason excels at organizing large teams of designers, consultants, and contractors to create successful design projects.

Jason moved to New Orleans in 2006, following Hurricane Katrina. He earned a degree in architecture from the University of Kentucky and was a fellow at the Gaines Center for the Humanities. Prior to joining Studio West, Jason worked for 14 years for a National Design firm leading many complex projects for civic, cultural, and educational clients across the United States. His experience includes two library master plans at Cornell University, a significant public park in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and many new construction and renovation projects in New Orleans built in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Jason is a mentor to the staff at Studio West and is always teaching – mostly best practices in construction documentation – but sometimes his love of world history and music.

Jason currently serves on the Board of Zoning Adjustments for the City of New Orleans and is a Director of the New Orleans Architecture Foundation.
