Campus Master Plan
Quality schools provide a supportive environment for students to learn and succeed. It is important that schools have a campus plan for facilities and future growth to allow the physical spaces to support the needs of a school’s community. Without a cohesive plan, campuses often become disjointed and unorganized. Studio West was selected by St. George’s Episcopal School to provide a ten-year facilities master plan for the campus located in Uptown New Orleans.
St. George’s Episcopal School is a pre-kindergarten through eighth grade independent school in New Orleans with a unique focus on student resource services. Inspired by St. George’s mission, that every child learns differently, Studio West worked closely with administration and the facilities committee over six months in the Spring and Summer of 2021 to create a vision for the next ten years of the campus. The Studio West-led process was a layered and multifaceted approach. Starting with research and community engagement, Studio West facilitated over 20 individual and group interviews with school administration, directors, faculty, staff, parents, trustees, and students, which allowed the planning team to hear from a variety of stakeholders and community members about the opportunities and challenges of the campus and what makes St. George’s unique.
Campus master plan that reflects the values of a unique institution
A goal of the Master Plan was to combine necessary maintenance with transformational projects that attract development funding. Synthesizing the community engagement, Studio West identified a campus strategy for growth and defined projects that embody this goal. Identifying another funding opportunity, with several historic buildings on campus, Studio West worked with St. George’s to develop a phased application to utilize State Historic Tax Credits for necessary eligible repairs.
A vibrant and comprehensive guide for the next decade
Since completing the Master Plan, Studio West has worked with St. George’s to implement the initial construction projects, developed cohesive interior finishes and furnishings guidelines for the school, and support ongoing development efforts to fund the vision for the school’s continued success.
